FAQ
What does “Shōtai” mean?
In Japanese, 正体(shōtai) is commonly used for “true identity / real nature / true form,” depending on context. It often appears when something concealed is revealed (e.g., the identity behind a mask) or when appearance is contrasted with underlying reality.
In Project: Shōtai, the term is used as a conceptual label: the “structure that remains” when distortion, haste, and performative identity are reduced—without claiming this is provable.
Is Shōtai a religion?
Not in the classical sense. There is no god, no revelation, no cult, and no salvation guarantee. It is a voluntary belief construct and an ethical lens.
Does Shōtai claim to know what happens after death?
No. Shōtai does not provide proven answers. It offers a coherent interpretation that some may accept as belief.
Who is a Shōtainin?
A Shōtainin is someone who voluntarily identifies with the concept and respects the principles. This is not a status or rank that grants authority.
Why no real-time chat?
Shōtai prioritizes reflection and responsibility. Real-time channels reward speed, escalation, and social pressure. Asynchronous formats support deliberate thinking and reduce harm.
What is Shōtai’s position on suicide?
Suicide is not a passage and is rejected in every form. Shōtai must never be used to justify self-harm. In acute distress, seek professional help immediately.
Does the project have a Discord bot?
Optionally, yes. The bot is intended as a “Temple-Interface”: orientation, readings, cycle prompts, and opt-in visibility for servers that choose it. It is not a counseling tool and must not be used for crisis intervention.
